Bellville Training

Bellville Athletic Club (Road) provides guidance and training to beginners and runners of all ages and abilities.

Beginners need no experience, only a desire to achieve a running goal. Experienced runners who need some variety or are looking to train smarter are also welcome.

If our current training programme does not suit your goals, we will direct your to one of the groups of runners working towards a common goal such as completing a 5 km, 10 km, half marathon, marathon or ultra.

Bellville Athletic Club (Road) is one of the oldest athletic clubs in Cape Town and is renowned for it’s distance runners.

Current Training Programmes
10 km, Half Marathon, Half Marathon Beginners, Marathon, Two Oceans Ultra & Comrades
Prerequisite:

  • for the 10 km - must be able to run a 5 km in less than 1 hour
  • for the Half - must be able to run a 10 km in less than 1 hour and 45 minutes
  • for the Marathon - must be able to run a half in less than 3 hours

Training is half price for Bellville AC Members and pricing is for a family unit. You are welccome to come try out the training before you decide to join one of the groups.
Experienced runners who need some variety, are looking to train smarter or want to focus on technique / form are also welcome.
For the longer runs you will join the Bellville Time Trial or Wietse se Run.

Start / Finish = Old Gate Posts on corner of Diving Club
White = Km's 1 & 2 (do loop twice)
Red = Km's 3, 4 & 5 (around Phil Pansegrouw Park and back)
3 km Course = Do one loop and then go to 4 km mark and back.
Course measured with a Jones Counter.

Group Runs
There are various of group runs in the Bellville area. Some groups also do hill and speed training. The group runs is particularly of value to runners who are doing half marathon training or want to know how to train for a half marathon, follow a marathon training plan or run ultra marathons such as Comrades and Two Oceans.
